What are garage door spring replacement?

Garage door spring replacement is swapping a broken or worn counterbalance spring and resetting the door's balance so it lifts easily and stays put when half open. Sectional doors use torsion springs on a shaft above the opening; up and over doors use tension springs at the sides.

How much do garage door spring replacement cost?

Our guide price is £140–£320 including VAT. Where a door is fitted, that includes removing and disposing of the old door. The final price depends on size, finish, whether you want it electric or insulated, and the condition of the opening, and is fixed in writing after survey.

Questions about garage door spring replacement

Can I replace a garage door spring myself?

We don't recommend it. Springs store a lot of energy and can cause serious injury if released without the right tools.

How do I know a spring has broken?

The door feels very heavy, won't stay up, or you may have heard a loud bang from the garage. A visible gap in a torsion spring coil is a clear sign.

Should both springs be replaced?

Yes. Springs wear together, so replacing both keeps the door balanced.
