What are side hinged garage doors?
A side hinged garage door has two leaves hung from the frame jambs, opening outwards like a pair of French doors. You can open one leaf to walk in without opening the whole door, which suits garages used as workshops or for bikes and bins.
How much do side hinged garage doors cost?
Our guide price is £1,200–£3,000 including VAT. Where a door is fitted, that includes removing and disposing of the old door. The final price depends on size, finish, whether you want it electric or insulated, and the condition of the opening, and is fixed in writing after survey.

Options to choose from
Equal or unequal split
A 50/50 split for symmetry, or a two-thirds and one-third split so the main leaf works as a pedestrian door.
Timber, steel or GRP
Vertical-board timber, ribbed steel or low-maintenance GRP leaves on a matching frame.
Multi-point locking
Top and bottom shoot bolts on the secondary leaf and a multi-point lock on the main leaf.
Automation arms
Swing-gate style operators can open both leaves from a remote handset.

Questions about side hinged garage doors
Do side hinged doors open inwards?
They are normally hung to open outwards so they don't take up garage space. Inward-opening leaves are possible on deep garages.
Is a side hinged door secure?
Yes, when fitted with multi-point locking and shoot bolts on the fixed leaf. Security depends on the lock specification, which we list on the quote.
Can I have windows in the leaves?
Yes. Glazed top sections are available on most timber and steel designs.
